When working ‘in the round’, should rounds line up (e.g. end above the last one)? Using increases/decreases on the same round

Hi guys! I recently completed my second project, and it turned out great except it came out looking a little longer than the images for the patterns. When I was creating the main shape in the round, the stitch markers for the last round weren’t lining up at all - could this be it?

The rounds did use increases, but also sometimes used an equal amount of decreases in the same round - should these have lined up or is it alright for them to be off by a few stitches? I’m happy with how my tension went and there’s no gapping or ‘stretching’ the other way, so I don’t think it’s that?

Ty!
