need help figuring out how much yarn to buy!

im trying to make this blanket as a throw that will cover a twin bed. i want to use this bernat roving yarn in white as the main color and three secondary colors. i'm really struggling with figuring out how much yarn to buy since the original blanket was only 34"x34" and used a weight 4 yarn instead of weight 5. does anyone have any tips for how to figure out how many balls of yarn to buy? thanks!
