Magic circle or chain?

So I decided I wanted to make my first ever blanket with granny squares, which I also never made. However, I saw a comment on the pattern I’m using that using a magic circle could be bad because the circles could loosen and come undone. Is there any truth to this? What is preferred for granny squares the magic circle or chain?
I can do a magic circle no problem, and I like the closed circle more than the big one a chain leaves, so I’d like to do the magic circle if it won’t eventually come undone.
