How to get rid of chemical smell in blocking boards

I bought some foam blocking boards for a baby blanket, and they were great to use but have a strong chemical smell and unfortunately it transferred to the blanket, so I had to wash it a second time before gifting. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the chemical smell from the boards or somehow prevent my FOs to smell like it so I don't have to wash them twice?
