Why are crochet patterns often behind paywalls while sewing patterns (and similar crafts) are free?

I'm a pretty big creative hobbyist and for the first time I'm running into a large amount of paywalls in the crochet community.

Everything from sewing to programming microcontrollers has a vast amount of free content and it's almost rare to see someone attempt to sell ideas. I believe the phrase is, share ideas, sell execution.

Any idea why crochet (and knitting) is different in this regard? Just curious.
