Favorite Yarn for Project Linus?

I've done crochet for a long time, but mostly amigurumi. My teen daughter is just learning to crochet and also wanted to do a service project for school. I suggested she do some blankets for Project Linus. She's going to start by doing a crochet edging around a layer of fleece and then try a fully crocheted baby blanket. Any suggestions on favorite, easy to find yarns for this? I know they need to be 100% acrylic, and I'd like something soft but that holds up well too. Open to suggestions! Thanks!
