Stitches that use the least amount of yarn

Not sure how to phrase this but Im wondering what stitches use the least and most amounts of yarn and if there is a list?
I’m considering doing another blanket, no pattern really other than just repeating my favorite stitches, but 7-9 skeins of jumbo yarn is a lot. I was using HDC and I’m just wondering if a Sc would use less yarn per stitch? And even if it does, it doesn’t build up as fast so would it take even longer or use more/the same in the long run anyway?
