Temperature blanket ideas

So I'm making something like a weather blanket. I'm gonna end up having 12-15 different colors. But I don't like the typical bright rainbow color scheme, any suggestions for colors would be great.
I'm planning on using Caron Simply Soft, for the price point and wide range of colors, but if there's a comparable brand I'm open to suggestions.
I think I'm going to do 2 rows per week for an entire year, possibly with a border color to break up the months. Also any stitch suggestions, to make a cozy blanket but also something that won't take forever would be great! Thanks in advance.
