Help on changing sizes on a pattern?
IFTTT newest submissions : crochet
So I've made this cardigan like 4 times now and I'm very comfortable with it. I want to make a matching one for my daughter. She's 3 but she's very tall lol. The pattern calls for bulky yarn so I'm thinking itd be better if I got a lighter weight side item be too stiff otherwise.
Basically here's my questions.

Is there a size where I could follow the pattern exactly and have it be a reasonable child's size? (I realize that probably won't happen, just figured I'd ask, I don't mind having to kinda wing it)

What's the math behind the sleeve decreases? I only kinda get it. For example, this has you decrease every 9 and its perfect all the way around. How to l do you figure out the math for that?

Is there any other tips anyone has for adjusting patterns?
