Giving someone my first ever creation...?

Hi friends, hopefully this is okay to post. I’ve started to get back into crochet and only know the basic single stitch(?) pattern at the moment. I’m currently trying to crochet a blanket for my boyfriends family and their home by Christmas or New Year, but I don’t want to embarrass myself by giving them something subpar... Of course my blanket isn’t going to be perfect (although it’s looking pretty decent!!!) but they’ve been very sweet to me and I thought this would be a great thank you gift.
I’d like to know if I should make this blanket a practice one or if I should wait until I’m finished with it to make any decisions? This is a photo of my progress so far and hopefully you guys can tell me if my crocheting looks alright?
