Does my stitch look normal? (Alpine stitch)

Does my stitch look normal? (Alpine stitch)

So, I started this project a while ago and got a bit frustrated with the tiny yarn and wound up simply putting it down for a while. I had only done a small number of rows before I quit and for a while once I picked it back up everything looked to be coming out fine- but upon my latest row I noticed it appeared only the left side of the blanket in the making looked like it was... tapering? Like the edge isnt straight and getting smaller as I go along. I wondered if I was missing stitches but I looked at the whole piece and just cant see any inconsistencies and i did try to count my original chain to compare it with my most current but since the color is so dark, the yarn is so small and its fraying a little I'm having a really difficult time counting to compare. I wondered if it's because the stitch is stretch or it will just look like that until I get to my next row but I have my concerns. Any help or advice based on observation would be much appreciated. I've only just started to crochet so I'm still a bit of a novice but I've been very attentive of my stitches and have been marking them as I go to try and maintain continuity but I'm at a loss here! 😭
