Baby Blanket Yarn...

I would like to crochet a baby blanket for a coworker and ideally like to shop my stash for it. Would the Carron Cotton Cakes yarn be a good choice or could I use some soft acrylic (& prewash the resulting blanket)? Normally I’d just buy specific baby yarn but funds are tight atm.
