What’s the best stitch for blankets that eats the least amount of yarn?

I’m relatively new to crochet, and am about to undertake the task of making my first blanket. However, I didn’t know what the best stitch is for making blankets. I know the blanket stitch and the ridged stitch, as well as the basic classic crochet stitch, and I’m not sure if one of those is good, or if there’s another that I should learn to make the blanket?
