Where do you buy your yarn?

Where do you buy your yarn?

I'm looking at specifically scheepjes but anything works. The only place I have that is local is walmart but they really only sell red heart and lion brand. I want to branch out and try different brands. Obviously there's joann's but we're there any other reliable places online I can order yarn?

How exactly does writing patterns for different sizes work??

How exactly does writing patterns for different sizes work??

I would love to start writing and selling patterns this upcoming year, but I’m not sure how to calculate for different sizes. If there are any experienced pattern writers out there willing to share some tips, I would be so appreciative!

Is it possible to crochet in a spiral instead of in the round?

Is it possible to crochet in a spiral instead of in the round?

I’m a relatively new crocheter and I got this super cool pattern for a dragon! I got yarn specifically for it and cool safety eyes.

Anyways, I’m really struggling to crochet in the round. It never really made much sense to me and going in a circle having to slip stitch the end of a row and chain one before the next row. I always mess up my stitch counts no matter what. I use a little clip to keep track of the end of my row but I think the chain one is what messes me up every. Single. Time.

Is it possible to modify the pattern slightly to crochet in a spiral without having to slip stitch the end of the row to the first stitch?

Help with Berry Hat pattern by Bobbi Intveld

Help with Berry Hat pattern by Bobbi Intveld

I received this pattern in a mystery project bag and it includes instructions on how to create a puff stitch but I'm having trouble understanding them. The instructions are as follows: "Insert hook in next space pull up loop and elongate (about an inch), YO, * insert hook in same sp pull up loop and elongate about 1 inch), YO rep from * 2 more times, YO and pull through 6 loops, ch 2." After reading through this a few times I cannot figure out how it would be possible to end up with 6 loops on the hook after all that, unless you're meant to leave some of the loops on the hook. I figure there's either a typo in the pattern or I'm too sleepy to comprehend it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

10mm hook sweater patterns?

10mm hook sweater patterns?

Finally feeling brave enough to take a crack at my first sweater! (Also, note, I'm a relative newbie when it comes to crochet compared to some of the amazing crafters in this sub)

I decided to go with Bernat blanket yarn for my project. I love the way the yarn feels, and its machine washable and dryable to boot!

I picked up 4 skins to make a sweater, but am at a loss when it comes to finding a sweater pattern with a 10mm hook.

I've looked at some YouTube tutorials from FortheFrills, but pretty much all of her projects are with a smaller hook size.

Does anyone have any patterns for sweaters using a 10mm hook size? I know its pretty chunky, and I haven't been able to find any.

Alternatively, if I find pattern using a 5mm hook size, could I half the stitch counts if I use a 10mm hook? I don't know if that makes any sense lol πŸ˜…

Just trying to find a pattern to guide my chunky sweater crafting adventure, because I don't fully know if I can freehand it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yarn Weight Question

Yarn Weight Question

Hi everyone! Been crocheting for years but finally taking time to learn more than the basics. I am just about done with a blanket using a 9mm hook, 86 even moss stitches, weight 6 yarn. Thinking about making this blanket again. If I were to use a yarn that is a 5 instead of a 6, how many more stitches would you add to make up for the weight difference?

Hope that makes sense, sorry still learning. Thank you!!!

No holes granny square.

No holes granny square.

I want to make a blanket for a baby using granny squares that has no holes at all, I have tried a few patterns that I’ve found online but they always go wavy once I get past a few rounds.

Are there any patterns for granny squares that have no holes but that don’t go wavy?

Schnauzer

I used Projectarian's pattern and Red Heart yarn in Charcoal, Buff and Light Grey with a size I hook.

Thank you to whoever suggested I put weights in the base, as that was a great help.

And instead of a slicker brush to brush out the yarn, I used a pin and bristle combo brush. It seemed to work better for me with less shedding (though there was still A lot. Like more than you think, a LOT.)

Newbie looking for a recommendation

Newbie looking for a recommendation

Hidey ho, fellow crocheters! I am very new to the craft, even though my grandmother taught me the basic stitches when I was fourteen or so. I’m 44 now so I have forgotten more than I learned. I can chain, and I can do a slip stitch, and I can do a double crochet. I can make a granny square (just a double crochet one, nothing fancy) and I just learned how to do a magic circle from watching Youtube videos.

I want to learn how to read patterns so I can make actual things, though. Does anybody have a good resource or suggestion for where I can learn that? My grandma passed years ago ... I wish I had paid more attention when she was here. I’ve tried watching Youtube videos but I’ve noticed that very few of them go past the third row ... I don’t know what to do after that; it’s great to get started but I think that’s why I can’t make anything useful.

I appreciate any and all suggestions!
