how are you guys working with fluffy yarn?

its been 3 days of fluffy yarn crocheting and all ive got is 2 little cat ears, one of which took three restarts. i feel like im crocheting blind and i have to feel for where my stitches are and i have no idea if a fluffy yarn magic rings even possible at this point because it wont tighten up enough (im left with the hole in the middle) and then i cant feel my stitches along it!! is the trick to use a bigger hook for looser stitches? i dont get it!!
