Advice on doilies!

Hi! I know this is kind of a dumb question, but I’m wondering how many doilies is customary to gift someone? Is it 1? 4? I plan on making my mom a very pretty doily I found but don’t know how many to make. The pattern calls for a colored heart so maybe 4 doilies in different colors? TIA!
