INTARSIA CROCHETING - Any Tips?

Hi!
My friend is a graphic designer and for his birthday I've decided to make him a crochet version of one of his designs. It's fairly simple and uses only 3 colors. I've made a pattern for it, but I'm not sure on how to keep going. I have started my beginning rows with no color switch yet, but when I get there, I find it difficult because of the constant switches (I have tried and failed previously). One of my questions is whether I should keep take the two colors on the same row til the end since it will be used again, or should I just cut it off and start anew when it comes up again? My least favorite part of crocheting is hiding ends, so if there is a seamless way to do that, please let me know!
