Help with symmetrical decrease of multiple stitches on same row

Help with symmetrical decrease of multiple stitches on same row

I'm making my cat a bumblebee costume (as you do), and it's my first time not following a pattern. I've got this general shape in mind as a wrap-around and button style, but I quickly ran into the first decrease and realized I wasn't sure how to make both sides decreased on the same row. The best I can come up with from my research so far is that I should finish and fasten off the full row, then start the decreased section in the following row with a new length of yarn, kind of like I were changing colors. Am I correct, or is there some fancy technique I don't know about yet?
