Proper hook size??

Hi everyone! I’m currently trying to make this Amigurumi Bumblebee with the Bernat blanket yarn (6 weight). I’m having a hard time picking the right size hook for this project. I tried to do it with a 6.5 since it’s currently the largest hook I own, but I am strugglingggg. I can’t really tell one stitch from the other. What would you guys recommend? A 7 maybe? The yarn itself recommends an 8, but I know for amigurumi you should use a smaller hook so the stitches are tighter. Thanks!
