Preventing hand pain from crocheting ?

I started crocheting a few years a go . I find after sitting and watching a movie and working on a crocheting project for a bit I get hand pains. Especially in my thumb and wrist. Does anyone have some good advice on preventing this ? Is it worth getting some sort of wrist brace ? I’ve started making Christmas gifts and my hands are killing me !
