What kind of yarn should I use?

I'm looking for affordable, natural fiber yarn. About worsted weight and soft/silky. I am going to make a pocket shawl, and want something that will survive being washed and won't feel itchy against my skin. I haven't decided on a color yet, and I need to see it in person (I am near Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, etc.). What do you all recommend?
