Tips to make a blanket with an image

Needing help with resources, patterns too would help greatly. I'm not a very experienced hooker. A friend's son is getting married, and the bride to be is Wiccan. Its about a year plus out, so I have time. I want to make them a blanket with the triple Goddess moon. I've never done a blanket with an image in it, only solids. I don't want to do granny square style. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
