Help with Rope burn?

I started crocheting after a long break and got some help from you all with the motivation of starting a new project, and managed to finish that project. I got started on a waffle stitch scarf recently since I've always wanted to do waffle stitch something and have encountered a problem... With the way I hold my yarn, I end up getting a small patch of rope burn on my fingers, and was wondering if anyone had tips for dealing with this?
