How do I join an i cord to handbag hardware?

Hi everyone! I'm trying to attach an i cord to a couple of metal loops to make a handbag strap. All the tutorials I seem to find about joining I cords are focused on how to attach them to other crochet pieces, so that doesn't help me much. Does anyone know. Method to weave in or attach loops or other handbag hardware at the beginning and end of a cord?
If you can think of a method that involved another kind of cord instead of I cord, I'm willing to give that a go too! I just want a sturdy way to attach the metal component to both ends of my strap.
