Slip stitch in foundation double crochet

I decided to get started on this fingerless glove pattern so I’d have time to finish by the time it gets cold out, but I’ve gotten stuck right at the start. It uses foundation double crochet, which I’ve figured out, but then you need to slip stitch it into the round to make the wrist. The double crochet is tall enough that just doing a single slip stitch at the top leaves a gap which I’m not seeing in any of the images. Any thoughts?
