Fat crochet artist rant

So this won’t resonate with all which is expected. As a fat girl who loves to crochet and has been doing it for almost ten years I find myself constantly getting discouraged by how celebrated skinny bodies are in the crochet community vs fat bodies. Especially in the more younger groups on tik tok and Instagram that are helping create this resurgence of crochet appreciation. I love that people are getting into crocheting, I genuinely believe it is a healing and important skill everyone could benefit from. It’s no secret the crochet market right now is extremely oversaturated. A lot of people got into fiber arts during lock down which is amazing and a lot more people started selling stuff. Now I’m not gonna tell anyone they shouldn’t be selling their artwork but it would be foolish to act like this resurgence hasn’t taken a toll on more experienced people in the community. Personally, as skilled as I know I am even after crocheting for nearly a decade, I don’t think I’m ready to start selling pieces professionally, even if I’m absolutely capable of it. Now back to the fat girl thing cuz I’m sure y’all are confused where I’m going with this. Quite simply where are the fat crochet artists at? I scroll through my TikTok or Instagram explore pages and it’s all skinny people in simple boring (no offense) tops u know ( if u r fat like me) took a fraction of the time it would take for u to make the same thing but also wouldn’t look the same or hold anything up because it’s not made with same reinforcement and thought that goes into anything u make for urself. I’m not trying to say skinny people don’t deserve their light in this community or anything like that but please start appreciating the plus size creators among you and please drop ur names so I can follow. As much as we preach self love to ourselves and everyone around us living in a skinny centered world and honestly a skinny centered community is taxing on every single person and deserves more mindfulness. I honestly can think of maybe 2 mid sized crochet artist I’ve found on the internet that is completely unacceptable. But anyways if u read all that I’m a plus size crochet designer working on currently ABUNCH of videos for my original size 20 ish designs. But a big thing I want to focus on is figuring out how to fit any pattern to any size as I’ve had to do as a a fat person coming across tutorials for only skinny bodies. I’m still figuring out all the trials of filming tutorials but hopefully I’ll be posting some stuff soon❤️
