Is there a crochet blanket pen-pal thing somewhere?

While crocheting today I was thinking about how it would be cool if I had friends that crocheted so we could make a big friendship blanket. Then I realized I only have 3 friends and none of them crochet.
Anyway then I was thinking, what about a penpal situation where each person makes 8 squares a month and sends them to the other person, and at the end of the year BOOM 2 pen-pal blankets.
Does this already exist somewhere and if so can someone point me in it’s direction?
