My thumb is paper white

Hey guys, so I crochet for long periods at a time and after every session, my right thumb is always white with dead skin or a callus.

I'm wondering if there is some way to prevent this, maybe I need to upgrade from my plastic hook?

Let me know if any of you experience this and what helps!
