I didn't take a photo!

I freehanded several tiny pumpkins to decorate the bowl of Halloween candy. All of them are gone.

The little kids (not quite kindergarten age I'd guess) were the ones who wanted them. When I said "that's why I made these, so people can have them" they were very impressed and that felt great.

Definitely going to do it again next year.

(I made amigurumi style spheres and used yarn pulled tight around the outside to create the irregular... indentations I guess you'd call them to make them pumpkiny.)

What's a show or movie where you saw someone crochetting or knitting and you realized they were faking?

What's a show or movie where you saw someone crochetting or knitting and you realized they were faking?

For me it was those enchanted knitting needles at the Weasley's cottage in Chamber of Secrets. The needles were just sliding back and forth not doing anything.

I get that they probably couldn't do much with a practical effect. Especially when most people won't notice, but I do every single time.๐Ÿ˜Œ

I just bought $60 worth of cotton blend

I just bought $60 worth of cotton blend

in hopes of making many bucket hats!

They’re 50% cotton 50% acrylic. Ive heard that its not a good idea to use acrylic for bucket hats but is cotton blend okay?

Sorry if its a dumb question just wondering if I should consider returning the yarn I’ve just been really into making bucket hats and got too excited ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Yarn storage help

Yarn storage help

Kind of a weird question, hoping that someone has a creative idea for me. I work at a yarn store (very dangerous for my wallet, not sure if I would recommend) and I'm looking for a good way to organize the yarn in the storage room. Right now there are a million little cubbys that we store the yarn in. It's separated by brand/type and then organized by color number which helps find yarn quickly for orders or when putting away yarn. Because we're limited on space and we don't know if we're going to continue getting specific colors, there aren't set places for each color, we just organize based on what we have at any given time. The problem is that I feel like I spend a huge amount of time rearranging yarn and moving if from cubby to cubby (especially when I discover that I missed a color and have to move everything one over). There has got to be a more productive way to do things, but I don't have any ideas and would be very grateful for help :)

How do I get faster at crochet? And how do I get out of this funk that I am in now that I am doing commission work?

How do I get faster at crochet? And how do I get out of this funk that I am in now that I am doing commission work?

Hello! I've started doing commission work for crochet and I spend so much time rushing them out to meet deadlines! I am kinda slow - I used to think i was pretty quick but compared to people on tik tok or YouTube, I am a sloth ๐Ÿฆฅ. What can I do to speed up? Also I am really tired and am starting to hate my hooks and yarn now but I have 2 more dinosaurs to finish and a couple of bracelets with finicky yarn to do. Is there any way I can get motivated to do it? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

New to crochet

New to crochet

This is my first post ever here on Reddit so bear with me! I just have noticed this is a very open and friendly community and figured this is a great place for questions

I’m brand new to crochet, just got some hooks, have some very basic yarn and a yearning to start something. I knit, but find it so boring, and I’m worried I’ll feel the same about crochet if I have to start with hats and scarves. So my questions are.. - what are good projects to start with for a beginner? I will do hats and scarves if that’s what I have to do - favorite yarn to use? Any to stay away from? - who do you recommend to watch tutorials - any pattern makers you love? - I have a 7 week old baby, will I even have time for this? TYIA and for any advice I receive!

Thick and dense pattern?

Thick and dense pattern?

My very first baby, I made a HUGGGE (probably king size) blanket with a simple double crochet, was in college and it took me like a decade - I love the weight of the blanket, she thick. But when I sleep with it, air gets through and it’s kind of cold. I love that’s she’s heavy but wouldn’t mind making something that’s really dense and therefore heavier, and no air to get through. I thought about sewing it to some fabric but wanted to explore patterns that are dense for my next large blanket. Ideas??

TIL synthetic fibers from clothing make up 35% of microplastics. Kinda freaked out about this considering how much acrylic yarn I have. Does anyone here relate or have any tips for me about switching to natural fibers (in store-bought clothes as well as yarn)?

TIL synthetic fibers from clothing make up 35% of microplastics. Kinda freaked out about this considering how much acrylic yarn I have. Does anyone here relate or have any tips for me about switching to natural fibers (in store-bought clothes as well as yarn)?

I just watched this video on microplastics released today on Anton Petrov's youtube channel and it was very sobering. I knew about microplastics but I kept buying acrylic yarn and clothing thinking it wasn't that bad, that big corporations are the biggest pollutants, but really, I DO own a LOT of acrylic yarn--99% of my yarn is acrylic- as well as clothing made from plastic and its something I regular spend money on, and learning that the fibers in plastic based yarns are actually very likely to turn into microplastics because the structure is so thin and they go in the washing machine is making my stomach church a bit and giving me pause about how I do my favorite hobby. I'm thinking of not buying clothing or yarn that is made from synthetic fibers now. FWIW, I know that I'm just one person but I worry about the environment a lot and sometimes I feel better about myself if I 'do the right thing' if I can. Does anyone here use mostly natural fibers or buy mostly natural fiber clothing and have any tips about using natural fiber yarns, how to find ethical natural fiber yarns, words of inspiration about how great natural fibers can be, stores to shop from for clothing or yarn, etc., or basic words of encouragement? Thank you in advance.
