Is it advisable to use a 3mm hook to make a patchwork cardigan?

Hello everyone! I'm a beginner at crochet, and have been practicing my stitches for the last week or so and have gotten confident enough to start my first project: the patchwork cardigan (or Harry Styles cardigan). The patterns/tutorials I've found online all recommend using a 4,5-5mm hook, and I attempted using a 4,5mm hook initially but found it pretty hard so I switched to a 3mm (which is easier for me). So far, I've completed 2 squares and they look fine, but I'm not sure what the final fit will be like if I continue using the 3m. I'd really appreciate any advice from more experienced crocheters as to whether I should just undo the squares I've done and start over using the 4,5mm? Or stick to the 3mm? Thank you so much!
Also, the yarn I'm using suggests a 4mm hook, which I don't have.
