Where to find smaller weight yarns

I’m trying to find weight 2 or 3 yarn that’s at least somewhat affordable, and the options at the local craft stores where I usually buy my yarn are extremely limited. I know Michaels and Joanns aren’t the most sophisticated places to buy yarn, but they’ve been good enough, especially on a college budget. I’ve been looking around online, but I’ve never bought yarn online before unless it was to order additional skeins of a yarn I bought in person. So where do you guys usually buy your smaller weight yarns? Online? Specialty shops? I’m not quite sure where to start
