I need advice on mosaic crochet

I’ve been trying to learn from YouTube, but different tutorials show different methods. I’ve seen some people chain to create spaces for the treble stitch, and some people who don’t do that and attach the treble stitch to the exposed loop of another stitch. I also don’t know if it’s better to change colors every other row or every 2 rows. Any advice?
