Need Inspiration

I want to make a blanket for my niece's birthday next year, in November. She's already wanting to get a more grown up look, and will be 9 next year. I want the afghan to be on the elegant side but still something she can cuddle under. I was thinking of doing a gradient yarn in purples, her favorite color, but can't find a pattern I would like. Anyone have a favorite to share? Something intermediate if possible. Please and thank you for the help!
