Single Crochet -- help needed!

Hello Everybody! So I learned to crochet and knit when I was about 10 or 11 years old in my church youth group club thing. I liked knitting better, so I kept up with that and neglected crochet. Now that I have a ton of extra time on my hands, I am taking up crochet again because there are so many cute projects and clothes I can make.
Anyways, to the point. I am struggling with single crochet! I have watched a lot of youtube videos and read articles and I am getting different information.
1) Insert hook into stitch
2) Yarn over
3) pull through both loops on the hook and that is single crochet??? or pull through only one loop, yarn over again and then pull through the remaining loops?
